A Chair
Hajk is a foldable camping chair in an innovative format. Hajk utilizes the trees around us and in that way creates a nature-connected and practical seating solution.
Creating New Footprints
Hajk was created as a solo project with the purpose of increasing the comfortability to visit the outdoors. In that way more people are encouraged to take the chance and create new footprints.
Beyond being a comfortable chair Hajk creates comfortability in multiple ways. Hajk also doubles as a table perfect for a coffee break or outdoor cooking.
To be able to create new footprints you want to easily be able to transport your self with simplicity. Hajk is therefore foldable and occupies minimal space in or on the side of your back pack.
Approach & Learnings
During the creation of Hajk, prototyping played a central role throughout the development process. The prototypes were used for ideation, illustration, and verification, starting with simple small-scale models and gradually evolving into functional prototypes. This process ultimately resulted in an appearance prototype that closely represented what a finished product might look like.
The construction of the prototypes combined sewing and metalworking, bringing together different techniques to shape Hajk into reality. Many of the technical ideas were tested and refined directly on real trees, an important part of verifying the concept and ensuring its functionality.
This project taught me the importance of testing and iteration, while also sharpening my hands-on skills in the workshop. I also learned how to make prototypes look realistic and presentation-ready using simple techniques and smart finishing. A skill that has proven valuable in communicating design ideas clearly and convincingly.
